THE SKIDS - WORKING FOR THE YANKEE DOLLAR

THE SKIDS - WORKING FOR THE YANKEE DOLLAR

During the late 70's and early 80's The Skids released an impressive run of singles.  One of the first 'punk' appearances I can remember seeing on Top of The Pops was Into The Valley and I duly went out and bought the 7" single for my brother's 11th Birthday.

Between us we snapped up most of those Skids singles and it's the one that my brother bought me for Christmas 1980 that still remains my favourite from those Scottish New Wavers.

Working For The Yankee Dollar had enough of a pop sentiment to make the song really catchy but had that strange 'Skids' sound that seemed to infect their songs all coated with a new wave sensibility.  And it came packaged as a gatefold double 7" single featuring the post punky 'Hymns From A Haunted Ballroom' from an earleir John Peel session.
